Fellow humans,
If everybody treated life as a relay race, I believe we would find much more success, and more often. Not only success for ourselves, but also for others. During a relay race, runners take turns racing with the team baton. Feel free to watch a relay race by clicking here.
Pay close attention to the hand-off. One runner hands the team baton to their teammate, and the new runner takes off. Period. The new runner doesn’t look around first to see what other runners are doing. The new runner doesn’t check the audience to make sure he or she is being applauded. The new runner doesn’t stand idle in doubt, wondering if he or she is fast enough to win. The new runner simply grabs the baton and runs.
I believe we have many great ideas, but we often don’t take off and run with those ideas. We overthink them. We discount them as not great. We might even feel afraid to take the first step, because of potential failure. Regardless of the reason, we simply allow too many good ideas to die. If you have a history of procrastination, do yourself a huge favor, and watch this three minute video.
My inspiration for writing this post comes from people thinking we should wait around for a better opportunity that might come along in the future. Specifically, people who are waiting for Bitcoin to possibly drop lower, so they can buy more at a discounted price. Forget Bitcoin for the moment. This mindset goes far beyond buying digital assets. This mindset goes far beyond money and business.
Sometimes we have a mindset that we might deserve something better if we wait for the future to unfold. As if our current opportunities are not good enough. We are blessed with so much wonderful opportunity, and we often take those opportunities for granted. We have all day to make better choices, but we often overlook what is right in front of us.
I’ll assume everybody sleeps for eight hours each night. If you sleep less, you’ll be held to a higher standard, so don’t try to use that as a crutch in this scenario. Sleeping eight hours means we have sixteen hours each day to make decisions. Sleeping less means we have even more time each day. Below are some common decisions and opportunities that we might often take for granted on a usual day.
Eating healthy
Exercising
Praying
Reading
Respecting others
Spending, saving, and investing money wisely
Taking time to appreciate life
But no. For whatever reason, today is not always the day for seizing these opportunities. Now is not always the time for taking that first step. Tomorrow is always better, right? Wrong. Tomorrow may never happen. Grab the baton, and run!
Until next time,
Salvatore Norge
