Beyond Understanding
SALtoshi Whitepaper #9
Fellow humans,
I believe God’s ways are beyond my understanding. Some days, I don’t know how to move forward. God didn’t program me like a calculator — I don’t always come up with the right answer.
"If you want something you've never had, you must be willing to do something you've never done."
I don’t know who thought of this quote, but I’ve heard it before, and I’ve always believed it. However, I haven’t always embraced it. I’ve tried doing the same things over and over, expecting different results. That does not work. Some people believe that is the definition of insanity. I will not confirm or deny the status of my sanity.
I haven’t always embraced consistency. Writing this newsletter is a simple way for me to practice consistency. It might not have much of an impact on the outside world, but it helps me. If you’re struggling to find your way, start by taking small and consistent steps forward.
Former U.S. Marine and Medal of Honor recipient Kyle Carpenter said:
“The smallest of steps eventually complete the grandest of journeys.”
Kyle was 21 years old in 2010 — fighting in Afghanistan, when he jumped on a grenade to save his friend, and survived. He lives to tell his story today. His book YOU ARE WORTH IT goes into detail about his story and injuries.
He lost his right eye, his teeth, his face and body are scarred, many broken bones, etc. He went through 40+ surgeries, and years of recovery and physical therapy. He has earned functionality of his body again.
Like Kyle, all of us have moments in our lives that test the power of our spirit. If you don’t know, our spirits are much stronger than we believe. I cannot imagine the emotional and mental resilience, and consistency he must have had during his most challenging times.
Although my circumstances were never as serious as Kyle’s and many others, I am often challenged by life’s difficulties. I’m also grateful for the life and challenges God has given me. Without struggle, we would never become stronger.
I don’t understand God’s plan at times, but I have faith that all I need to do is move in the right direction. We’re not supposed to have all the answers. For any of you struggling to find your way forward, you’re not alone.
Rest in peace Darrin Sankey.
Until next time,
Salvatore Norge
