Fellow humans,
One thing I rarely do is skip the gym. Of course, I want my body to be strong and healthy, but my mental health might be my greatest concern. I can’t forgive myself for skipping a workout due to laziness. Plus, I’m a creature of habit.
As I was leaving the gym today, I started thinking about my time in the military for some reason, and one particular moment made me laugh. Hope you enjoy my short story, and maybe you’ll laugh too. Have a great weekend.
During the U.S. Army’s Basic Combat Training in 2008, we were learning to shoot the M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun, which is the coolest weapon I’ve ever used. One of our Drill Sergeants was explaining that we can’t hold the butterfly trigger too long, because it’s an automatic weapon, and the barrel would melt. He said to hold the trigger for a quick moment, and then give it a break. He also said a good way to gauge our time is to say “die motherfucker die” to ourselves. A recruit asked him if we should scream this aloud while firing, and he said with a huge grin, “by all means.”
Until next time,
Salvatore Norge
P.S. — After shooting once, I snuck back in line and shot again.
