Fellow humans,
With the exception of religious groups, I can imagine Bitcoin becoming the largest community in the world. The reason is decentralization.
Facebook, for example, has nearly 3 billion users. The differentiating factor is a single point of failure. In other words, one leader, one board, one company. In other other words, centralization.
Bitcoin, on the other hand, has no leader, no board, no company. The more you learn about Bitcoin, the more you realize it really is the internet of money. Nobody leads the internet, it just exists.
The Bitcoin community is no joke.
They are full of knowledge, experience, and conviction. The last thing you want to do is approach a group of Bitcoiners, and spread bad information. They will speak up with factual and verifiable information to refute your bad information.
Additionally, approach a group of Bitcoiners with a question. They will answer your question with enthusiasm and verifiable information, also providing resources for you to continue learning.
The invite-only iPhone app Clubhouse is a wonderful place to speak directly with members of the Bitcoin community, for free.
Here is a great example of the Bitcoin community on Clubhouse. Go to 31 minutes, and hear my question.
If you need an invite to Clubhouse, let me know.
The pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, named Satoshi Nakamoto, disappeared in 2011, leaving behind a group of people to continue pushing Bitcoin forward.
Even if Satoshi stuck around, I doubt he/she/they would be the singular leader of Bitcoin, because Bitcoin is decentralized.
I cannot overstate the importance of decentralization. We use decentralized command in the military. Imagine going into combat with your Sergeant, and he or she gets killed on day one. Someone needs to fill that void. Decentralized command.
Bitcoin is one of the most influential technologies ever invented. Otherwise, why would a group of volunteers devote so much of their time to contribute to the Bitcoin industry?
Profiting from the Bitcoin market is cool, but a good portion of the Bitcoin community receives no paycheck or benefits for the work they do. I suppose you can call Bitcoin a hobby and/or lifestyle.
Bitcoiners are led by curiosity, intelligence, and a strong desire to solve problems. For those who don’t understand Bitcoin yet, Bitcoin solves huge problems in finance, economics, technology, and even politics.
Everybody deep in the Bitcoin rabbit hole has a strong understanding of the monetary policy problems on this earth, created by governments around the world. Reckless monetary policy is one of the biggest problems for which Bitcoin solves. Detaching from the gold standard 50 years ago was a terrible decision.
The Bitcoin community is becoming one of the strongest educational and innovative teams on this earth, and with no leader. In a sense, everyone is in charge.
Bitcoiners take personal responsibility for self-education, and then educating others. Not to mention the personal responsibility it requires to build the technological side of the Bitcoin industry. Much respect to those computer scientists.
And then, somehow, Bitcoiners come together as one big team to help others. Still, with no leader.
After 12 years of military service, I felt confident leaving the military, and pursuing some sort of career in the Bitcoin industry, and the reason is simple — I’m in good company.
Shout out to Major K for pointing this out to me. Stack sats, Sir, stack sats.
