For those who don’t know, April 20th is dedicated annually to celebrate Marijuana consumption AKA smoking weed. According to Wikipedia, the code-word “420” originated in 1971 by some high school students on a quest to find an abandoned cannabis crop, although legend says 420 is used by police for weed-related crimes. Regardless, happy 420!

What’s the worst thing a drunk person has done?
We have to compare weed and alcohol. We just do. American society generally shames the consumption of weed, while encouraging the consumption of alcohol. Many people proudly drink in public (on various occasions), and/or post pictures and videos of themselves drinking on social media, looking cooler and more socially acceptable than ever. We rarely share our drunken moments of vomiting, starting fights, and recovering from hangovers. None of the aforementioned side effects come with weed.
Not saying weed is healthier than alcohol or everybody should smoke, but weed is definitely less toxic for society. I like to read, write, exercise, and ultimately be productive after smoking weed. In fact, my all-time favorite activity while high is cleaning my apartment. Not sure why, but you can catch me puffing a joint, and then cleaning my bathroom and kitchen. I’ve been drunk too many times (which I’m no longer proud of), and you would never catch me being productive while drunk.
Weed is a gateway drug. — People
If weed is a gateway to hardcore drugs, then alcohol is a gateway to ruining all relationships.
Today’s letter is not exclusively marketing for weed. Rather, an attempt to balance the conversational scales around weed. If weed should be illegal, then alcohol should definitely be illegal. Or, we could legalize both, and let people decide what to consume. Also, weed is not all about smoking. Edibles and oils are alternative methods to consuming cannabis.
Important to keep in mind — over-consuming just about anything is unhealthy. Water is one of the healthiest things for us, yet we’ll die if we drink too much. Weed is effective for stress, anxiety, and might help with balancing emotions. Life is super complicated, chaotic, and confusing, especially since 2020. Drinking one glass of wine per day, and getting acquainted with Mary Jane might bring a little more enjoyment and productivity to our lives.
